It’s time for a little change. Or perhaps, I should say, a big change on the blog because I’m changing the name and the direction I’m heading.
Honestly, I just wasn’t feeling the name anymore. I still love how it came to life when my stepson suggested it. It made me chuckle at the innocence of a young mind. ‘Sure buddy, let’s sit down and write a ten step guide that can be used across the board by every single stepmom!’ Life would be pretty darn amazing, wouldn’t it?
After much consideration, I’ve decided to take a leap and make the change.
The journey of putting my thoughts on paper (in this case mostly on screen...) started with this blog. I don’t have 10+ years of writing experience under my belt, let alone writing in English! It’s been a learning curve and has had me pulling my hair out battling Dutch words while trying to find the right English words to use.
I’ve learned that my passion lies with creating stories, sharing bits and pieces of my stepparenting life, and every once in awhile I just want to throw out what’s on my mind. This could be a random thought or something I’ve discovered I love that has nothing to do with stepparenting.
That’s where How to Stepmom didn’t fit the bill anymore and how This Unexpected Love was born.
This Unexpected Love is about more than being a stepmom because I’m more than a stepmom.
This Unexpected Love is all about the love we find in the most unexpected places.
Yes, I’m a stepmom and as a young girl growing up I never expected to have two amazing stepchildren in my life who I love and are such a big part of my life. It’s opened me up to a new life that I adore and am not trading in.
But, being a stepmom doesn’t define who I am.
I’m also a Dutch immigrant who now lives in Canada. Canada gave me a love for camping, hiking, spending summers on the lake and just being outdoors! Dare I say, an unexpected love? Totally!
And there is so much more. I love to:
- go on trips, with and without the kids
- spend quality time with my guy
- create a more stress-free life by planning, organizing or just saying SCREW it to household chores!
- Explore my new home even when the wildlife scares the **** out of me.
I love hearing from my readers and I also love connecting with other like-minded modern women who know all about the twists and turns of blended family life. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with your guest post ideas, for interviews or just to say hello!
Changing the name of the blog is a very natural change for me and I’m looking what the future has in store for me!
